I took a figure drawing class at the new Chouinard Institute. I had gone to CalArts and always heard the greatness of our forebearers in the field attending Chouinard. It was a fun experience and my teacher was Alan Zaslove an old UPA guy with a bunch of good stories
These are just more random sketches. I was just trying to think of how to draw something like a werewolf that does not rely too much on stuff I have already seen. Thats a problem with a lot of design in that we have to make up new and interesting characters based on old and already viewed ideas. So for this I was thinking of that type of crocodile in egypt , that has the really skinny snout.
This is a single page from my sketchbook. I've always love Edward Gorey and Edgar Allen Poe. Sometimes I think of them and this is one of those times (I had a passage from a Poe poem read at my wedding)
The busy part of the last 8 months is I now have a baby boy! Its awesome being a Dad, and I did murals for his nursery. I had one other piece that I copied from Mary Blair, it was "Its a small World" art work of giraffes. Obviously she was an influence for the work I did. These images are photographs taken off the wall in the room, and I got rid of the wall in photoshop. I don't have a great camera or light set up so there is some glare in the artwork.......alas
I am an Animation Supervisor at Rhythm & Hues in Los Angeles. I also teach at Animation Mentor, and sometimes do freelance design for games.
I'm pretty busy these days.
I also attended Cal Arts and wish I could start a studio with everyone I was in class with
